Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has just introduced Grok 3, its latest AI model that claims to outshine competitors like OpenAI and China’s DeepSeek.
According to Musk and his team, early testing shows Grok 3 excelling in math, science, and coding, making it a significant leap from its predecessor.
A Major Upgrade in AI Capabilities
During a live demo on X Musk expressed excitement over Grok 3’s potential, calling it “an order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2.” He also hinted that this might be the last time another AI is better than Grok, emphasizing the model’s ability to learn from mistakes and improve its logical consistency.
For now, premium X subscribers in the U.S. will get access to Grok 3, with a separate subscription available for its web and app versions.
Introducing Deep Search: The Future of AI-Powered Search?
Alongside Grok 3, xAI announced the launch of Deep Search, which it describes as a “next-generation search engine.” While details remain limited, it suggests a shift toward more AI-driven, context-aware search experiences.
The AI Race Heats Up
The launch of Grok 3 comes amid intense competition in the AI space. Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, has been vocal about both the promises and risks of artificial intelligence. However, his relationship with OpenAI has soured in recent years, culminating in a failed $97.4 billion buyout attempt of OpenAI’s nonprofit parent.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s GPT-4 (also referred to as “o1”) remains a dominant force, capable of handling complex reasoning tasks. But the AI landscape is shifting fast—Chinese startup DeepSeek recently made headlines with an open-source model that reportedly rivals OpenAI’s technology, despite using fewer resources.
Powering AI with Massive Computing Power
One of the biggest challenges in AI development is access to high-powered GPUs for model training. While U.S. restrictions have made it harder for China to acquire Nvidia’s cutting-edge chips, DeepSeek has still managed to make significant progress.
As for xAI, the company isn’t holding back. Last year, Musk revealed xAI’s “Colossus” supercomputer, powered by 100,000 Nvidia GPUs. On Tuesday, the company announced it had doubled that number for Grok 3’s training.
What’s Next for Grok 3?
Musk admits that Grok 3 is still in beta, meaning users might encounter some hiccups. However, he assured that improvements would come “almost every day.” Additionally, xAI plans to introduce voice assistance for Grok 3 in the near future.
With AI advancing at breakneck speed, it’s clear that the competition between xAI, OpenAI, and DeepSeek is only just getting started.
